New Delhi: The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Friday expelled Sita Soren, the sister-in-law of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, from the party’s primary membership for a duration of six years. Sita Soren is the wife of Hemant Soren’s late elder brother, Durga Soren, who died in 2009.

She was expelled for “anti-party activities”, the JMM said in a release.

Sita Soren is contesting from Jharkhand’s Dumka Parliamentary constituency in the Lok Sabha elections as a BJP candidate. In April, she claimed that the people of the state were standing with her and that the future was dark for the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha.

Following the arrest of former Chief Minister Hemant Soren, she highlighted the disillusionment among party workers and voiced concerns over the future of the JMM.

In the Lok Sabha elections of 2019, the BJP secured victory in 11 seats in Jharkhand, commanding a formidable 51.9 per cent vote share. Meanwhile, the Congress, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), and AJSU Party each clinched one seat.
