NEW DELHI: Congress leader Alamgir Alam resigned from the post of cabinet minister and the leader of Congress Legislature Party (CLP), three weeks after he was arrested in a money laundering case, an official informed on Tuesday.
Alam tendered his resignation via jail authorities to the Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge for the CLP leader position and to chief minister Champai Soren for the ministerial role.
“I hereby submit my resignation from the post of leader of Congress Legislature Party, Jharkhand. I shall remain grateful to the party leadership for providing me an opportunity to work and serve as CLP leader,” Alam wrote in his resignation letter to Mallikarjun Kharge.
Prior to this, CM Soren had assumed responsibility for all four of Alam’s portfolios: Panchayati Raj, Parliamentary Affairs, Rural Development, and Rural Works.
The Congress politician was detained by the Enforcement Directorate on May 15 in connection with a money laundering case after around Rs 32 crore in cash was discovered at a location connected to his aide.
