In a bulletin released on Friday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning as cyclonic circulations loom over various regions in southern India. The bulletin highlighted the formation of cyclonic circulations over south Tamil Nadu and Rayalaseema, accompanied by a trough extending from south Chhattisgarh to the Comorin area.

Under the influence of these weather systems, the IMD predicted widespread light to moderate rainfall across several states including Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Karnataka, and parts of Andhra Pradesh over the next seven days. The agency cautioned of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds ranging from 40 to 50 kmph in affected areas.

The IMD said: “Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds (40-50 kmph) likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep, south Karnataka and Isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds (30-40 kmph) over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana and Rayalaseema during next 7 days.”

In Chennai, IMD predicted a cloudy sky with light rains and maximum temperatures expected to hover around 29 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, in Hyderabad, normal life was disrupted as heavy rains battered the city and surrounding regions. Reports emerged of a drain slab collapsing in Banjara Hills, resulting in the washing away of several two-wheelers. Yousufguda recorded the highest rainfall of 51.3 mm, followed closely by the Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS) with 48 mm.

The downpour inundated several areas, leading to waterlogging and traffic congestion in Hyderabad. GHMC Mayor Vijaya Laxmi R Gadwal visited the affected Uday Nagar in Banjara Hills, while Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy instructed officials to ensure citizens’ safety and convenience.
