‘Health did not hinder him from… ‘: ED on Kejriwal’s bail plea | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The Delhi court on Thursday issued notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on the regular bail plea filed by Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal in the excise policy case. Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court, presided over by special judge Kaveri Baweja, instructed the ED to submit its response to the plea by June 1.
The Aam Aadmi Party chief sought relief from the court citing health issues.The ED, however, refuted Kejriwal’s arguments during the hearing adding that his “his health did not hinder him from campaigning”.
“There are some submissions to be made. Word used is “will surrender”. There’s lot of supression which has to be brought to notice. He’s campaigning in Punjab, his health did not hinder him from campaigning. Strenuous campaigning has been done. Last minute bail is being filed. His conduct doesn’t entitle him to any bail,” ASG SV Raju, appearing for the ED said.
Kejriwal has filed two different bail application, a regular bail plea in the ED case and an interim bail plea seeking seven days interim bail extension on medical grounds.
Currently, Kejriwal is out on interim bail in the case until June 1, which was granted by the Supreme Court.
With the deadline for him to surrender on June 2, Kejriwal has also moved Supreme Court seeking extension of time to surrender till June 9 on the ground that he needed to undergo a comprehensive medical examination to identify whether his “unusually high blood sugar level, rapid weight loss and bouts of dizziness, coupled with palpitation”, were life-threatening.
Arrested by the agency on March 21 in a money laundering case relating to the alleged excise policy scam and released on interim bail by the apex court on May 10 for campaigning, the 54-year-old Kejriwal said a senior physician from Max Hospital clinically examined him on May 25 and suggested whole body PET-CT to rule out malignancies and Holter monitor test, both of which would take 5-7 days.
The Delhi court will now hear the case on June 1.
