North, Central India Sizzle Under Severe Heatwave, Nearly 50 Degrees Celsius In Parts Of Delhi

Large parts of northern and central India were engulfed in extreme heatwave conditions on Tuesday, with temperatures surpassing 50 degrees Celsius in Churu, Rajasthan, and Sirsa, Haryana, and reaching nine degrees above normal in Delhi.

In Delhi, at least three weather stations recorded maximum temperatures of 49 degrees Celsius or higher. Mungeshpur and Narela registered 49.9 degrees, followed by Najafgarh at 49.8 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

These were the highest temperatures recorded in Delhi this season, though the Mungeshpur and Narela stations, established in 2022, have only three years of data.

As per the report of PTI, the IMD indicated that relief from the heatwave might come after May 30, with a new western disturbance expected over parts of northwest India on Thursday, potentially bringing isolated rainfall over the weekend.

Saffron Tsunami Hits Odisha Elections: Himanta

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared on Tuesday that Odisha has been swept by a saffron “tsunami,” expressing confidence that the BJP will form the next government in the state.

Odisha holds its Lok Sabha and assembly elections simultaneously.

Sarma, who has been campaigning in Odisha recently, stated, “During my first election meeting in Odisha, I noticed a small wave of support for the BJP. But today, in Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, and Jagatsinghpur, I witnessed a tsunami of support for the BJP.

“I experienced something similar in Chhattisgarh, where an initial small wave transformed into a tsunami by the end of the election,” Sarma added, PTI reported.

He emphasised that the people of Odisha, known for their long history of self-respect and pride, would never submit to V K Pandian, a close aide of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and a bureaucrat-turned-BJD leader.
