A deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm by Saturday evening, making landfall on the night of May 26 along the coasts of West Bengal and Bangladesh, according to the Met office.

The cyclone is anticipated to hit with wind speeds of 110-120 km per hour, gusting up to 135 kmph.

As per PTI, the Met office has issued warnings of extremely heavy rainfall in the coastal districts of West Bengal and northern Odisha on May 26-27, with parts of northeast India likely to experience similar conditions on May 27-28.

A storm surge of up to 1.5 meters is forecasted to inundate low-lying areas of coastal West Bengal and Bangladesh during landfall.

Fishermen have been advised to avoid the sea in the northern Bay of Bengal until the morning of May 27.

The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for the coastal districts of South and North 24 Parganas in West Bengal on May 26 and 27, where some areas are expected to experience extremely heavy rain.

AI Anchors To Helm DD Kisan Relaunch On May 26

For the first time on an Indian government channel, Doordarshan is set to introduce two Artificial Intelligence (AI) news anchors for its farmer-focused channel, DD Kisan, on May 26.

Named AI Krish and AI Bhoomi, these virtual anchors will lead the relaunch of the channel, which has been on the air for nine years, featuring a refreshed look and updated content tailored for the agricultural community, as per the agriculture ministry.

These AI anchors, capable of delivering news 24/7 without breaks, will provide real-time updates on agricultural research, market prices, weather alerts, and government schemes to farmers nationwide.

A notable feature is their ability to communicate content in 50 different Indian and foreign languages.

“From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, and Gujarat to Arunachal, these AI anchors will distribute crucial agriculture-related information in regional languages,” the ministry stated, PTI reported.
