‘Why did Chowkidar not stop tempos?’: Kharge questions PM Modi’s inaction on Adani-Ambani allegations | India News

NEW DELHI: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not take action in response to allegations that industrialists Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani were involved in sending black money to the opposition party.
Addressing election rallies in Bihar’s Samastipur and Muzaffarpur, Kharge said, “PM Modi says we are silent on Ambani and Adani, we are not.I am asking why his government did not take any action if, according to his allegation, we received black money from these industrialists? Is it because they themselves received black money?” Kharge asked.
Kharge further challenged Modi’s claim of being the “chowkidar” (watchman) of the nation, questioning why he failed to intervene if such illegal activities were indeed occurring under his watch. Kharge said that the PM calls himself “chowkidar” of the country, “so why did not the chowkidar stop these tempos?”
Kharge referenced PM Modi’s recent statement during the Lok Sabha elections, where he accused the Congress of having a “deal” with Ambani and Adani, insinuating that the party had received substantial amounts of black money from them.
Accusing the BJP of jeopardizing democracy, Kharge said it was because of this democracy that a tea-seller’s son could become the prime minister of India and he, the son of a labourer, could become the president of the opposition Congress. He criticized the BJP for diverting attention from critical issues such as unemployment and inflation by stoking communal tensions.
In his address, Kharge reminded the audience of the Congress party’s contributions to India’s freedom struggle and democratic evolution, citing examples of leaders who made sacrifices for the nation. He dismissed the BJP’s claims of a potential inheritance tax under a Congress-led government as baseless propaganda aimed at misleading voters.
Kharge accused the BJP of resorting to falsehoods and fearmongering tactics as the election campaign progressed, highlighting the need to defeat forces that threatened the country’s unity by inciting religious and caste-based divisions.
