Mercury soars in Delhi, Ayanagar records highest 46°C | India News – Times of India

The regional meteorological centre of New Delhi, which serves as Delhi’s official weather station, recorded 46°C in Ayanagar meanwhile Palam and Lodhi Road experienced similarly oppressive heat, with temperatures reaching 43°C and 43.9°C respectively.
The Ridge area was not spared either, as the mercury climbed to a scorching 45.5°C.
Ayanagar recorded 44.8°C on Friday, as per India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Amid the scroaching heat in India, IMD had predicted heatwave to severe heatwave conditions likely in many parts of West Uttar Pradesh whereas heatwave conditions likely in isolated pockets of East Uttar Pradesh on 19th June, 2024.
The IMD also said, “Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions very likely in many parts of Uttar Pradesh and few parts of Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Punjab, Bihar and Jharkhand whereas heatwave conditions very likely in isolated pockets of Jammu Division, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan.”
While the North-centre and North-Western parts of India is experiencing heat wave, IMD had forecasted heavy rainfall in north-eastern part of India on Monday and Tuesday. The IMD also issued orange as well as red alerts for some states.
Arunachal Pradesh is likely to get heavy to very heavy rainfall on Monday and Tuesday, the IMD said on Saturday, issuing an orange alert for the northeastern state.
“Arunachal Pradesh is likely to get heavy (64.5-115.5 mm) to very heavy rainfall (115.5-204.4 mm) on 17th & 18th June, 2024,” the met office said in a post on ‘X’.
The states of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are likely to get heavy to very heavy rainfall on Monday and Tuesday, the IMD said.
