NEW DELHI: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday clarified that he has no ambition to become the next prime minister if the INDIA bloc emerges victorious in the Lok Sabha elections 2024.
In a recent interview with PTI Videos, Kejriwal said his primary goal is to protect the country and its democracy from the current “dictatorship.”
Kejriwal expressed concerns that if the BJP returns to power, all opposition leaders will face imprisonment, and the party will manipulate the electoral process. The chief minister said the opposition INDIA bloc’s prime minister will be decided after the results of the Lok Sabha polls are announced on June 4.
When asked about accepting Rahul Gandhi as the prime minister, Kejriwal stated, “There has been no such discussion. It’s a theoretical question. We will discuss it when we sit together.” He reiterated that the current elections are crucial for safeguarding the nation and its democratic principles from the prevailing authoritarian rule.
Kejriwal drew parallels with Russia and Pakistan, suggesting that if the BJP retains power, they will suppress the opposition and manipulate elections, similar to Putin’s actions in Russia and the treatment of Imran Khan in Pakistan. He expressed concern that no opposition leader would be spared from imprisonment.
The AAP convener affirmed that his party is expecting to win all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi with a record-breaking margin.
Kejriwal described his release from jail as a “miracle of god” that has energized the people. He claimed that the BJP’s attempt to dismantle his party by arresting him had the opposite effect, unifying the party and motivating the workers to work harder.
“They (BJP) thought after my arrest, the campaign will be affected and our party will disintegrate, MLAs will break away and the government will topple. But the opposite happened. Our party became more unified, our leadership worked like a family and our workers were encouraged to work harder when they saw their leader was in jail,” he said.
