The Opposing INDIA bloc leaders on Friday welcomed the Supreme Court decision to give interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal till June 1 for election campaigning during Lok Sabha elections 2024. The top court announced relief for Aam Aadmi Party chief adding that 21-day bail “will not make much of a difference”.
“He (Kejriwal) was out there for one-and-a-half-years.He could have been arrested earlier or after but nothing such thing happened,” the bench told ED. The Delhi CM has been in Tihar jail under ED custody in liquor policy case.
Leading the support messages, West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee said that Kejriwal’s bail “will be helpful” in the elections. “I am very happy to see that Shri Arvind Kejriwal has got interim bail. It will be very helpful in the context of the current elections,” she wrote on X.

Soon after the court’s decision, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray said the decision is a “huge sign of winds of change”. “He has been speaking the truth and that is what the BJP dislikes. More power to him and the INDIA alliance for Bharat. We will protect our Constitution and democracy!” he said.

Congress leader Pawan Khera also expressed happiness over top court’s decision. The leader also added that he hopes for the same for jailed former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren. “We hope that the former chief minister of Jharkhand Hemant Soren also gets due justice,” Khera said.
The arrests of JMM’s Soren and AAP’s Kejriwal have been at the centrestage of the INDIA bloc campaign for Lok Sabha elections. The wives of both leaders have also recently come forward to take charge during Opposition’s mega rallies in Delhi, Patna and Ranchi.
Big relief for Arvind Kejriwal
In a major relief, the Supreme Court granted interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal to campaign in the Lok Sabha elections. The top court, however, rejected the request of bail until the declaration of results on June 4. AAP chief will have to surrender on June 2.
