T20 World Cup 2024: The T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies and United States of America is merely under 7 days away and almost all the participating teams have arrived in the host countries to begin their preparation for the mega event. The warm-up matches will begin from Monday, May 27, and will run till Saturday, June 1. The main group stage matches will start from Sunday, June 2.
The Indian team has arrived in New York, with captain Rohit Sharma marching his young guns and troops ahead. The Indian Cricket Team (ICT) has suffered heartbreaks in the previous two International Cricket Council (ICC) events, with them losing the World Test Championship 2023 Final and Cricket World Cup 2023 Final, both at the hands of the mighty Aussies, as Australia completed a historic treble in 2023 under the leadership of ‘Cricketer of the Year’ Pat Cummins.
Howeve, the ICT has not arrived with complete squad in US, as Virat Kohli and Sanju Samson are yet to join the squad. Alongside them, Hardik Pandya is yet to join the squad as well, as the Indian all-rounder, as per the reports, is currently in an undisclosed overseas location.
“The Indian team left Mumbai for New York on Saturday night (May 25). Pandya did not board the team flight as he was in an undisclosed location overseas. After a personally and professionally stressful IPL season, Pandya flew out of the country after Mumbai Indians’ campaign ended. However, he will join the team in time for the first practice session in New York. Pandya is the vice-captain of the team, led by Rohit Sharma, in the June 1-29 Twenty20 World Cup in the US and West Indies,” reported Cricbuzz.
Hardik Pandya’s Disastrous IPL 2024 In Numbers
Hardik Pandya underwent a disastrous Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 campaign, as the Mumbai Indians skipper failed to lead his side into the playoffs, and finished at the foot of the table. The 30-year old had a shambolic run with both bat and ball in the tournament, as he managed merely 216 runs in 13 innings, which included 0 half centuries. He scored at an average of 18, and a strike rate of 143.05.
With the ball, he failed miserably, as the Indian all-rounder managed 11 wickets in 12 innings, at a dismal economy rate of 10.75, which in short, defines the forgettable season he had.
