Body Of 23-Yr-Old Gangrape Accused Found Hanging From Tree In Bareilly, 4 Held As Family Alleges Murder

Uttar Pradesh: A 23-year-old gangrape accused’s body was found hanging from a tree in Bareilly, following which the Bareilly police arrested four persons for allegedly killing him. The deceased was one of the three persons against whom a gangrape case was filed three days ago.

In the gangrape case, the complainant had alleged that the accused took an objectionable photograph of his sister while she was bathing. The complainant also alleged that the 23-year-old accused had been sexually harassing his sister using those photographs,the Indian Express reported.

The police were informed about the body of a man hanging from a tree on June 14. Subsequently, when the police launched a probe into the matter, the police discovered that he belonged to a neighbouring village. Later, they found out that he was one of the three accused in the gangrape case, the report noted.

After getting informed about the incident, the deceased’s family members rushed to the spot and protested.

False Gangrape Case Due To Old Enmity: Deceased’s Family Tells Police

The man’s father told the police that on Thursday night, his son went away with a youth in his car who had came to their residence that day. He also stated that when his son went with the youth, three others were already present inside the car.

The deceased’s family members also told the police that due to an old enimty with a family in their village, a false gangrape case was filed against their son by them, the report noted.

On the basis of the complaint filed by the deceased’s father, the police registerd a case against three members of the family with whom they allegedly have an enmity. The elder brother of the gangrape survivor is also among the persons named in the FIR. 

However, the police stated that no one was arrested in the murder case so far, the Indian Express reported.

The station house officer of the concerned police station in Bareilly said: “Police are investigating the case from all angles. We have received the postmortem report which stated the cause of death as hanging. We are looking into the allegations of the family.”
