NEW DELHI: Voting for the Baharampur constituency in the Lok Sabha elections will take place on May 13, in the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections. Voting in West Bengal is set to take place in all seven phases from April 19 to June 1, aiming to elect 42 members of the Lok Sabha.
The election results will be announced on June 4, 2024. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal, the TMC won 22 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, while the BJP gained notable momentum with 18 seats.Congress won two seats.
The candidates for the Baharampur constituency are Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury from INC, Nirmal Kumar Saha from BJP, and Yusuf Pathan from AITC.
In 2019, Baharampur had 1,638,378 voters, with 1,299,997 valid votes. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury of the Indian National Congress won with 591,106 votes, beating Apurba Sarkar (David) from the All India Trinamool Congress, who got 510,410 votes. Chowdhury won by 80,696 votes.
In 2014, Baharampur’s parliamentary constituency had 1,453,783 eligible voters, with 1,154,587 valid votes. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury of the Congress won, becoming the MP with 583,549 votes. Indranil Sen from the TMC came in second with 226,982 votes, losing by a margin of 356,567 votes.
The main parties vying for seats in West Bengal include the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and a coalition of Left Front and Indian National Congress.
The model code of conduct came into effect from March 16 and will continue until the completion of the vote counting process on June 4.
