NEW DELHI: Former Jammu and Kashmir CM Ghulam Nabi Azad was one of the flyers who got stuck after his Delhi-Srinagar Air India Express flight got cancelled on Wednesday.
Expressing discontentment over the inconvenience caused, Azad said, “Air India should be shut down again”, further adding that it has a “bad culture”.
“If the flights have been cancelled, they should have informed us in the morning itself. Why fool the passengers? So many people are being harassed,” Azad added.
“When I was the civil aviation minister, Air India pilots called for a strike for 40 days. Then we brought the private airlines. But they (Air India) learnt no lesson,” he further said.
Air India Express has cancelled more than 80 international and domestic flights from Tuesday night till Wednesday morning after senior crew members went on a “mass sick leave”, the airlines’ spokesperson said in a statement.

The airlines apologised for the inconvenience saying, “We sincerely apologise to our guests for this unexpected disruption and emphasise that this situation does not reflect the standard of service we strive to provide.”
Ministry of Civil Aviation has called for a report from the airlines regarding cancellation of flights and asked them to resolve issues promptly. They have been further been asked to ensure facilities to passengers as per DGCA norms.
