NEW DELHI: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray drew a parallel on Saturday between Devendra Fadnavis’s past remark of the MVA government as the “three legs of a rickshaw” and the present condition of the BJP government at the center. Thackeray said, “Devendra Fadnavis told us that our government is like the three legs of a rickshaw, and the condition of the BJP government at the center is also the same,” during a joint press conference of Maha Vikas Aghadi leaders in Mumbai.
He also voiced strong criticism of the BJP following the Lok Sabha elections, questioning the party’s narrative and promises. Speaking on the BJP’s slogan of securing 400 seats, Thackeray questioned, “What happened to the narrative of good days, what happened to Modi’s guarantee?”
“BJP itself gave the slogan of 400. What happened to the narrative of good days, what happened to Modi’s guarantee,” Thackeray said.
He also hailed the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance’s victory in the Lok Sabha elections as a new beginning. “This Lok Sabha poll victory for Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is not the end, it is the beginning,” Thackeray said during a press conference, emphasizing the coalition’s strengthened position and future ambitions.
Thackeray framed the election victory as a defense of constitutional and democratic values. “This was a fight to save the constitution and democracy. Assembly elections are coming shortly. This government was the Modi government and now it has become the NDA government. Now it is to be seen how long this government will last,” he said, indicating skepticism about the longevity and stability of the current central government.
Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) chief Sharad Pawar taunted PM Modi by extending his gratitude towards the Prime Minister” for making the political atmosphere conducive for MVA.”
Pawar said, “Wherever the Prime Minister’s roadshow and rally took place, we won. That is why I consider it my duty to thank the Prime Minister,” acknowledging the impact of PM Modi’s engagements on the outcomes of those particular constituencies.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan suggested that the election results could precipitate a change in the state government. “After the Lok Sabha poll results, a change of government is imminent in Maharashtra,” Chavan said, indicating a possible shift in power dynamics within the state.
The MVA, an alliance of the Shiv Sena (UBT), the Congress, and the NCP (SP), has seen its unity and collaborative efforts rewarded with substantial gains in the Lok Sabha elections.
