PM Modi is attending the summit, which is being held at the Borgo Egnazia resort in Apulia from June 13-15, as an Outreach country.
PM Modi’s participation comes at the invitation of Italian PM Giorgia Meloni. PM Modi was greeted by India’s Ambassador to Italy, VRao, and other officials upon his arrival at Brindisi Airport late Thursday night (local time). This trip marks his first overseas visit since assuming office for the third consecutive term.
Randhir Jaiswal, the MEA spokesperson, outlined the Prime Minister’s schedule for June 14, which includes bilateral meetings with world leaders and an address at the G7 Summit’s outreach session.
In his departure statement, Prime Minister Modi expressed his delight that his first state visit in his third consecutive term is to Italy for the G7 Summit. He reflected on his previous visit to Italy and the visits of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to India, which have significantly contributed to strengthening bilateral relations.
This is India’s 11th participation and PM Modi’s fifth consecutive attendance at the G7 Summit. A bilateral meeting between PM Modi and his Italian counterpart, Giorgia Meloni, is also anticipated.
