TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu is likely to take the oath as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on June 12. This change is due to Narendra Modi’s swearing-in as Prime Minister on June 8. The Times of India quoted sources as saying that Naidu was initially scheduled to take the oath on June 9, but due to Modi’s oath-taking ceremony, he may postpone his swearing-in until June 12. The TDP won 135 seats in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections. With 175 seats in the state assembly, a majority requires 88 seats. This time, the TDP has performed spectacularly, winning more seats than needed for a majority. The assembly election results in the state coincided with the Lok Sabha elections. The TDP has also won 16 Lok Sabha seats. The TDP is part of the NDA alliance at both the state and national levels.
