NEW DELHI: Hours before the announcement of the Lok Sabha election 2024 results, Union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar has suggested new careers for Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Shashi Tharoor, his rival in Thiruvananthapuram seat.
On Congress rejecting the exit poll results which predict a comfortable majority for the BJP-led NDA, “The Congress party has many people who are very good with language and speak very eloquently and I think these elections will point them towards a new occupation,” the minister told news agency ANI.
Suggesting new professions for Congress leaders after Lok Sabha results, Chandrasekhar said, “Rahul Gandhi should start a gym. Shashi Tharoor should start an English training institute.”
“The people of India want their political leaders who serve them, who can improve their lives and certainly, this group of people whether that is Rahul Gandhi or anybody else cannot fit the bill,” he added.
Congress’s Shashi Tharoor had earlier rejected the exit poll results and cited party president Mallikarjun Kharge’s assertion that the INDIA bloc will get more than 295 seats.
The senior leader, who is the Congress-led UDF candidate for Thiruvananthapuram, said he and his party are quite relaxed going into the counting on Tuesday, and once again exuded confidence that he would emerge victorious from here for the fourth straight time.
“We are seeing it (exit poll results) with skepticism and disbelief. We have also campaigned across the country. We also have a sense of what the pulse of the people is, and we do not believe that is reflected accurately in this poll,” Tharoor, who is also the Congress Working Committee member said.
If any exit poll had said that the BJP could win seven seats in Kerala, then they are ‘either suffering from heat stroke’ or do not know about the state.
“Some of these exit polls are also laughable for other reasons; they are saying there are five seats in a particular state, but the BJP is going to win six,” he said, taking a potshot at the exit poll predictions by various agencies.
Rahul Gandhi has also discarded the exit poll figures terming it “fantasy polls”.
“It is not exit poll, it is Modi media poll. It is his fantasy poll,” the Congress leader told reporters after meeting with party’s Lok Sabha MPs via video conference. When questioned about the number of seats the INDIA alliance would secure, Gandhi said, “Have you heard Sidhu Moose Wala’s song ‘295’? So 295 (seats).”
The results of the 18th Lok Sabha elections 2024 will be announced on June 4.
