BHUBANESHWAR: “This is about making Modi ji Prime Minister for a third time. This election is about making India world’s number three economy. It’s also an election to throw Naveen babu out and begin a new era of development,” Amit Shah said. He was addressing an election rally on Friday in Odisha’s Sundargarh.
In a counter-attack, Patnaik said the claim by several BJP CMs and cabinet ministers that they would make Odisha the number state of India was making people of the state laugh.”What’s interesting is that Assam CM came here and promised to make Odisha no.1. The per capita debt of Assam is twice as much of Odisha, so he should probably be concentrating on his own state which needs some very important work,” Patnaik told ANI, referring to Himana Biswa Sarma’s recent promise in Odisha. BJD member VK Pandian said “people of Odisha will give a stern reply to those who come from outside and disrespect Naveen babu”.
Expressing confidence in BJP’s prospects in Odisha during the simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly elections in the state, Shah said the election will see defeat for the BJD government in Odisha and Odia pride restored.
“These elections are about re-establishing the pride of Odia language, literature and culture,” he said.
Taking an indirect dig at Pandian’s Tamil-origin, Shah said, “Should Odisha governance be in Odia or Tamil?
Alleging regional imbalance in development in Odisha, Shah said “Odisha govt has meted out step motherly treatment to western region of the state.”
Soon after Shah’s attack, Pandian said: “Shah goes to Karnataka and says that he will make Karnataka India’s number one state. He goes to Telangana and says he will make Telangana number one state. Let their parliamentary party meet and decide which state they will make the best,” he said.
