NDA will not win more than 200 Lok Sabha seats: Mallikarjun Kharge | India News

BHUBANESWAR: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday described Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘abki baar 400 paar’ campaign as a poll gimmick and predicted that the NDA will not win more than 200 Lok Sabha seats.
Speaking to media persons at Bhubaneswar hours before addressing an election rally in Kandhamal on Thursday, Kharge exuded confidence that the opposition coalition — Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc — will form the govt at the Centre.
“We wonder on what basis BJP claims to win 400 seats. They (BJP) do not have the numbers in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Their chances are bleak in Maharashtra. Their numbers will go down across the country. They cannot win more than 200 seats,” Kharge said.
Kharge also ridiculed Modi saying that the PM fortunately did not utter ‘abki baar 600 paar’ as the Lok Sabha has a total of 543 seats.
Responding to Kharge’s charges, BJP said NDA will achieve its 400-seats target, including 370-plus seats by BJP alone. Kharge also came down heavily on BJD and its president Naveen Patnaik for allegedly neglecting the state despite remaining in the office since 2000. Kharge said though the state is rich with mineral resources, people of the state are poor and many of them are forced to migrate to other states for livelihood.
“Both Naveen and Modi looted the rich resources of Odisha. They are not with the common men. People of Odisha will give the mandate in favour of the Congress this time,” Kharge said.
A BJD spokesperson said Naveen babu’s good governance and welfare measures will make him the CM for record sixth time in a row.
