As the electoral fervor engulfs Mahesana,Gujarat, the recent announcement by the Election Commission on March 17 has ignited anticipation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. With polling day set for May 7, Mahesana constituency braces itself for a high-stakes showdown between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress (INC), led by Haribhai Patel and Ramji Thakor (palvi) respectively.
The electoral saga of the Mahesana parliamentary constituency, spanning the years 2014 to 2019, paints a vivid picture of political dynamism and voter engagement in the region.
In the 2019 parliamentary elections, a total of 1,648,869 electors exercised their democratic right, marking a significant increase from the 1,498,219 electors recorded in 2014. This surge in voter participation underscored the electorate’s growing involvement in shaping the political landscape of Mahesana.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged victorious in both elections, with Shardaben Anilbhai Patel clinching the MP seat in 2019, following the victory of Patel Jayshreeben Kanubhai in 2014. The BJP’s continued dominance in the constituency was evident, albeit with notable shifts in vote counts and margins of victory.
In 2014, Patel Jayshreeben Kanubhai secured a resounding victory, although specific vote counts were not provided. However, the BJP’s stronghold in the region remained unshaken, setting the stage for subsequent electoral battles.
Fast forward to 2019, the electoral landscape witnessed significant developments. Shardaben Anilbhai Patel, the BJP candidate, emerged triumphant with an impressive vote count of 659,525. Meanwhile, A J Patel from the Indian National Congress (INC) garnered 378,006 votes, securing the second position.
The margin of victory in 2019 was striking, with Shardaben Anilbhai Patel clinching victory by a formidable margin of 281,519 votes. This landslide triumph reaffirmed the BJP’s enduring appeal and mandate from the electorate of Mahesana.
