How Will Australia Losing To Scotland Affect England’s Super 8s Qualification Chances?

AUS vs SCO T20 Wolrd Cup 2024: Australia (AUS) will lock horns with Scotland (SCO) in the 35th fixture of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia on June 16 (as per India time). The AUS vs SCO match will mark both team’s last Group Stage fixture of the T20 World Cup 2024. Australia have already qualified for the Super 8 stage and Scotland will look to defeat them and secure their spot in the Super 8 stage of the tournament. Interestingly, England would like to see their arch-rivals Australia win against Scotland, as the latter’s victory will knock England out of the Super 8 race.

England are set to play against Namibia in the 34th match of the tournament, hours before Australia take on scotland. However, even if England win, they will depend on the AUS vs SCO match result for their qualification to the Super 8 stage. A win against Namibia will only take them to five points and if Scotland defeat Australia, they will have seven points and will go through to the Super 8s. Australia already have six points and are through to the Super 8 stage.
How Can Australia Losing To Scotland On Purpose Get Mitchell Marsh Banned?
Just days before the AUS vs SCO match, Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood hinted at potentially influencing the game in favour of Scotland and getting England knocked out of the tournament. However, a move like that could result in a ban for the Australian captain Mitchell Marsh. Under Article 2.11 of the ICC’s rules, Mitchell Marsh could face a ban of up to two matches during the Super 8 stage for manipulating a match’s result.
“Not too sure really. Whether you get close and just knock it around and drag it out. There’s a few options there. But as you said to take confidence from winning and winning well, that’s almost more important than potentially trying to knock someone else out. They’ve still got a lot to do on their behalf as well, so I think it’ll become clearer the closer we get to that sort of stuff,” Hazlewood said ahead of the AUS vs SCO T20 World Cup 2024 match.
